Mission Statement
The MUSD gifted and talented program, in collaboration with district professionals, parents and community leaders, will maximize and nurture the interdisciplinary potential of all gifted and talented students in the areas of intellectual development, creative endeavors, social emotional needs, leadership ability and fine arts through differentiated instructional opportunities.
The Marana Unified School District services approximately 1,700 K-12 gifted and talented students.Gifted and talented students require the following:
- gifted instruction to comply with Arizona College and Career Ready Standards and support classroom content acquisition.
- opportunities for acceleration and enrichment for every K-12 gifted learner.
- a Scope and Sequence documenting a continuum of instructional services for every K-12 gifted learner.
- K-12 teachers to differentiate for gifted learners by making modifications to products, processes, content and the classroom environment.
- equal opportunity for a range of diverse gifted learners.
- all parents in the district to have equal access to information on gifted learners, assessment dates and clarity of results.
- leadership to train faculty and implement policies and procedures outlined in the Scope and Sequence.
Understanding Gifted Education
The District identifies and places students for Gifted Education in grades K-12. These services include:
Gifted and talented children are those identified by professionally qualified persons who by virtue of outstanding abilities are capable of high performance.
MUSD offers World-Class Services to gifted students in Marana. The gifted student is considered to be gifted all day and will be challenged appropriately in their classroom.
In 2006. Arizona House Bill 2552, amended sections 15-203, 15-779, 15-779.01, 15.770.02 and 15-779.03 of the Arizona Revised Statutes relating to Education for Gifted Students.
Referrals, assessments (testing windows), eligibility, required documentation, probationary status, and voluntary exit for Gifted Education.
MUSD supports grade level content acceleration on an individual basis upon recommendation by the giving and receiving teacher, parent and gifted education teacher.
Gifted students with other disabilities are considered Twice Exceptional. Gifted education is a guaranteed part of the Twice-Exceptional gifted student's school day.

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, Marana Gifted Education teachers and classroom teachers were excited to join parents and gifted educators from across Southern Arizona at the Regional Gifted Parent-Teacher Institute, an annual event hosted by the Southern Arizona Gifted Network. Teachers from Coyote Trail Elementary, Dove Mountain CSTEM K-8, Estes Elementary, Gladden Farms Elementary, Ironwood Elementary, Roadrunner Elementary, and Twin Peaks K-8 explored how to support gifted children by creating space for deep thinking in a distracted world.
