How do I know when to keep my child home from school?

Children should stay home when:

  • Elevated Temperature (100.4 or higher)
  • Diarrhea: two times in one day or more
  • Vomiting (with/without a fever): may return to school after 24 hours symptom- free
  • Redness and/or drainage from eyes: may return when redness has gone away
    • OR a medical provider writes a note stating
    • OR student has prescription medication for eyes that has been given for a full 24 hours
  • Rashes/ skin sores: when the rash has disappeared;
    • OR a note from a medical provider that states the rash/sore is not contagious
    • OR after 24-48 hours of medical treatment with a medical note with activity and treatment be presented to the school.

 

Children do not need to stay home if:

  • runny nose
  • coughing (unless severe)
  • sneezing
  • allergy related symptoms
  • minor injuries
  • low grade fevers (under 100.4)'
  • tired
  • emotional distress - we have counselors on site who can work with kids in the morning to help them process their feelings and get ready for their day
